MEET ELMER LUCILLE ALLENBeloved Community Leader and Accomplished Artist Blesses Mission with Award Money
Elmer Lucille Allen has lived a life hallmarked by accomplishment. Only one of two African-American graduates from Nazareth College (now Spalding University) in 1953, she has worked as a chemist, earned a Masters in Fine Arts from the University of Louisville, beaten breast cancer, and currently serves as the tireless curator of the Expressions Art Gallery at Hotel Louisville. Her eighty plus years have neither diminished her zeal for living nor her compassion for those less fortunate. Recently, she requested that her $1000 Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft Art and Advocacy Award be sent to Wayside Christian Mission’s Expressions Art Gallery. In her words, “I have been blessed in so many ways.” We, too, have been blessed in so many ways by this truly remarkable woman. |
